nurserybuilding.jpgOur aim is to ensure that when boys and girls leave our Nursery they do so as confident, happy children whose first experience of a learning environment is a positive one and who are looking forward to Kindergarten with enthusiasm.

The Nursery at Howell's is a friendly, lively, colourful and exciting place. Housed in a Victorian house within the Preparatory School campus it is self contained and secure, whilst benefiting from having access to the wide range of facilities of the school.

The key to a successful start to life beyond the home is ensuring that children feel happy and safe. The Nursery staff create a warm, secure and above all caring and friendly atmosphere. Our staff are experienced, fully qualified early years specialists and nursery nurses. The ratio of staff to children is age dependent and we use government guidelines as a minimum.

prepplayground.jpgHowell's Preparatory School is an independent, non-selective, school for girls aged 4 to 11years. You will find us situated at the edge of Denbigh in the glorious Vale of Clwyd in North Wales. Whilst the lower school operates as a day school only, at the upper age range (7+) we cater for flexi- boarders as well as weekly and full boarders.

Our pupils have a broad range of abilities, talents and personalities; our aim is to provide a truly all round education that will set each child on their own personal path to a successful school career and beyond.

One of the first things which strikes most visitors to Howell's is the strong sense of community. Our framework of respect, tolerance and discipline makes for a happy and relaxed environment for both boarders and day boys and girls. The size of the school also ensures that there are strong links between the age groups, be they through shared interests, performing alongside each other in the school pantomime or through family relationships. An awareness of and responsibility for the happiness of those around you, older and younger, is postively encouraged by the school.

Pupils very soon slot into the way of life at Howell's, and make the most of their opportunities in sport, the arts, music or just enjoying each others company. Many of our day pupils are reluctant to leave at the end of the day, and it's often a treat for prep girls to board overnight (this facility is not yet available for boys). This flexibility mid-week is often very valuable to working parents, and is also a taste of boarding life for pupils, many of whom will go on to board in later years.
