6th
Form Plus
For many
who have grown up through the preparatory and senior schools, Howell's sixth is
an automatic choice. All of the Howell's sixth students go on to University, so
the 100% 'A' level pass rate is a prime consideration.
For those
who join from other schools at sixteen, the attractions are many and varied.
Most often quoted is the position Howell's sixth holds as a 'bridge' between
school and university and sixth students certainly benefit from all the
positive attributes of a large community.
Opportunities
such as the Volunteering Programme (which links into the current 2012 Olympic
Volunteer Programme), and participation in large scale school events such
as BBC filming for Children in Need, and the 'Glory of Wales' extravaganza held
in the school grounds for over 3,000 people are unlikely to be found at a sixth
form college. On the other hand the single sex tutorial approach and
availability of advice and help is more reminiscent of a Cambridge women’s
college.
Also
important is the social life at Howell's which has a burgeoning events
programme with events as diverse as London Fashion Week and Chester Races in
the diary. Add to that the huge range of facilities on offer, and it's
easy to understand the genuine sadness of those leaving for University
every summer.
