Welsh at Howell's PDF
Saturday, 01 March 2008
Howell's School was established thanks to the generosity of a Welshman, Thomas Howell. It is located in the Vale of Clwyd, an area of north Wales officially designated as being of outstanding natural beauty. We are, therefore, naturally proud of our Welsh heritage.

As a boarding school we look to attract students from across the world. Our present students come from China/Hong Kong, Japan, Russia, Spain, USA.  We are delighted that in choosing Howell's they have also chosen to make Wales their temporary home. We hope that they act as ambassadors for Wales in the wider world and spread the word!

One of the reasons students choose to study at Howells is our English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme and the fact that English is the school's first language. The beautiful language of Wales can be studied at Howell's, as an extra-curricular subject, since, regrettably, it is not viable for us to offer as a timetabled subject. Students can study at GCSE, AS and A2.

Our Welsh speakers are encouraged to read in Church Services and the School supports the Urdd Eisteddfod in the locality. Students have represented the county of Denbighshire in sport. Success of students in Welsh is celebrated through various Speech Day awards/trophies.
