Children follow a set Physical Education curriculum. In Kindergarten and Transition children learn and improve basic motor skills through fun games, dance and gymnastics; the skills which are later applied by the children in more structured game situations. In the Junior School (J1- J4) the curriculum incorporates gymnastics, hockey, netball, tennis, athletics and rounders. All children in the Preparatory School also have weekly swimming lessons at Denbigh Leisure Centre. Fixtures are arranged with other local schools and are an integral component of the school calendar. Whilst extension lunch-time coaching is offered to children who show strength in a particular sport, most children who wish to will have the opportunity to represent the School and/or House and gain the benefits of healthy, well-managed competition which promotes leadership, sportsmanship and teamwork. Our annual School Sports Day is a whole school event held at the Senior School in which all children participate. The Sports Day activities are age appropriate to accommodate the wide range of skills levels. A school Swimming Gala is held each summer in the School's own outdoor heated pool. In addition to the Prep Hall gym and a range of child specific gymnastic equipment we have access to Senior School facilities that include a suitably equipped, sprung wooden floored gymnasium with bespoke wall bars, a climbing wall and playing fields. All children are encouraged to be physically active at lunch-time in the playground, adventure playground and weather permitting in the orchard area. In addition to the general curriculum we also offer a wide variety of extra-curricular activities during enrichment ( 4.00pm - 5.00pm) throughout the year.
