We regard
self-esteem as of paramount importance in the learning process and children are
encouraged to feel positive about themselves and their abilities. Some children
will not have certain skills in place until later than their peers; there
really is no such thing as an average child.
At Howell's we are able to place a priority on individualised learning programmes, based on our knowledge and understanding of each child in our care. Small class sizes mean that there is plenty of time for staff to assess each child's individual learning style, development and needs and to respond accordingly. Able and talented children have as many special needs as those with long term or developmental difficulties and the teaching style of Howell's is designed to address the needs of each pupil. Although most of the children's needs can be addressed largely within the classroom, the department does have access to the school specialised SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) resources, available to advise and teach on site, providing support for staff, parents and pupil and continuity of care. |
