Learning Support
The Learning Support department supports students, teachers and parents by offering assessment and advice where difficulties are encountered. Co-ordinating closely with department heads and teaching staff, the specialist teacher will ensure that all students have appropriate opportunities to optimise their potential by ensuring the curriculum is accessible to all. In the case of mild to moderate dyslexia, intervention strategies may range from developing specific skills or enhancing general skills, such as planning and studying, to providing individual tuition. The application of ICT can be of particular benefit in targeting specific learning difficulties. We believe that policies which support dyslexic pupils in the classroom both reflects good practice and benefits all learners. Gifted and TalentedAt Howell's we aim to provide learning experiences appropriate to the individual needs of each student. Gifted and talented students are identified early and have opportunities to make accelerated progress in subjects. Extension activities are routinely provided in the context of our small teaching groups. Students benefit from differentiated tasks, both in class and for homework. We are committed to ensuring that all our students have access to a curriculum that stretches and challenges them to the best of their abilities.
