science test tube.jpg"Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science" Edwin Powell Hubble.

The overall aim of the Science department, which comprises Biology, Chemistry and Physics, is to develop the students' interest in and enthusiasm for Science.

This aim is achieved within a teaching environment in which the student is encouraged to express their own views and experiences, the better to develop both practical and theoretical understanding of these subjects.

All three Sciences are taught by experienced, specialist staff and as discrete subjects in years 7 to 9 at the end of which students will have acquired:

  • an appreciation of a) the unique contribution of Science to the objective understanding of the material world and b) its essential role in society.

  • a systematic body of scientific knowledge, together with a critical approach to scientific evidence and methods and the practical skills to apply this knowledge in a range of situations.

  • the ability to evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of scientific and technological developments within the context of any  ethical issues arising therefrom.

Our success in achieving our aim is demonstrated by the number of students continuing all Sciences at GCSE (one may be dropped) and against National trends to AS and A2 level.
