geog_multi.jpg“With growing emphasis on ecology and related problems of the environment, Geography will undoubtedly grow in importance and relevance.” James Michener, Pulitzer winning author.

The concept of geographical study has changed through the ages. Today it is a dynamic and all encompassing subject. In broad terms geography seeks to understand the relationships between people and the environment and their impact thereon. Geography uniquely bridges this understanding of social and physical processes and puts them within the context of places and regions.

It has been suggested that a good reason to study Geography is that History will then make a lot more sense!

The course content is relevant and meaningful to students; the media reports daily on a wide range of issues in our areas of study. We employ varied teaching and learning strategies, incorporating independent research to support and develop class- based activities. Integral to the course is the development of research, analytical, interpretive and communication skills; so-called  transferable skills in much demand today.

We are fortunate at Howell's to have on our doorstep access to the huge outdoor classroom that is Snowdonia and into which we venture as often as curriculum and timetable permit.

Geography is compulsory for years 7 - 9 and a very popular choice thereafter as a GCSE option and at AS/A2 level.
