Drama & Theatre Studies PDF

In years 7-9 all students participate in our Performing Arts Programme, which encompasses acting, singing  and dance and caters for the full range of ability, personality and temperament. The aim of this Programme is to enable students to identify and fulfil their potential as performers. All students benefit from the enhancement of their presentational skills, developing dramatic and technical skills together with critical awareness. Students also have the opportunity to develop practical skills (set design, make-up, sound, lighting etc); each and every student will find some way to experience both the challenges and rewards of drama.

There are two major productions each year, at the end of the Autumn and Summer terms. In the past few years we have staged a Pantomime, a Celtic fable and a musical. Students also participate in the Shakespeare for Schools programme, most recently performing Richard III. Whilst examination candidates are expected to participate in production work, all students are encouraged to participate through the enrichment programme.

It is our intention that our performance work will stimulate the whole school Community, providing a memorable and exciting experience.

Students participate in drama festivals throughout the North West with much success. Many also undertake the LAMDA scheme, often to Gold Medal. Students in years 7-9 are also prepared for English Speaking Board examinations.

There are many and varied opportunities to attend theatrical productions locally, in Liverpool and Manchester and occasionally in London for our A level students.

Drama and Theatre Studies is an option at GCSE, AS and A2 levels
