“A picture paints a thousand words” Frederike R. Barnard
The aim of the Art department is to enable our students to become confident artists and also develop a critical understanding of other art works. The students will learn to express themselves visually as well as verbally. This allows them the ability to expand the way they interpret the world and record and communicate their response. At Howells we regard Art as an important element in the general education of all students. Skills, experiences and knowledge are acquired through working with a broad range of two and three-dimensional media. These will include drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, new media and photography. Students learn to relate to the work of other artists and seek inspiration from their work. This enables a development of their critical faculties and expansion of their technical skill base.
