Middles & Transition age 5-7 years Print E-mail

In the these years we aim to build upon the foundations already laid for combining hard work with fun. Education should be fun at any stage, it is important that children enjoy being at what ever age they are.

The children move up from Kindergarten emergent writers and mathematicians. In Middles they continue to consolidate their new skills and in Transition they are extended, in preparation for the Junior stage. This is reflected in the use of more standardised testing methods and materials. The curriculum is broadly based on the National Curriculum KS1, a framework with traditional subjects in mind.

Classes are taught mostly by an individual form teacher and there is no formal setting within this age group. Classes are sufficiently small that each individual's needs are catered to and progress is closely monitored. A child struggling to meet expectations can receive extra work on a 1:1 basis. Equally work can be extended where a child is working beyond expectations.

The children, in addition to Mathematics, English, Science, Topic (History and Geography), R.E., Art etc. also continue lessons with subject specialist teachers, such as French and Music and Dance.  In addition to this, from Middles onwards the children have a weekly ICT lesson with a specialist teacher.
